The Cornish Winter Fair returned this weekend with glorious winter weather and a showcase of top-quality livestock, craft, and produce at the Royal Cornwall Events Centre.

Jointly organised by the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association and the Wadebridge Prime Stock Show Association, the two-day event attracted visitors and competitors from across the region, celebrating the best of Cornish agriculture and rural life.

The Wadebridge Prime Stock Show, which has been running for nearly 150 years, once again drew hundreds of entries across cattle, sheep, and young handler classes.

The Supreme Cattle Championship was claimed by Gail Ellis with her exhibitor-bred British Blue X Heifer, while the Reserve Supreme Cattle award went to Mr C Harris from Torrington for his British Charolais X Steer.

The Sheep Section was as competitive as ever, with Gwen Renfree achieving a remarkable double, taking both the Champion Pair of Lambs with her Blue Texel pair and the Reserve Champion with her Texel X Beltex pair.

Young handlers demonstrated impressive skill and dedication. In the Beef Young Handler Championship, Sophie Kitchen, winner of the 13–16-year-old class, took the top prize, with Ruby Doidge, winner of the 12-and-under class, as Reserve Champion. The Sheep Young Handler Championship was won by Charlotte Parsons (13–16 years), with Austin Turk (12 and under) taking the reserve spot.

The Cookery Section saw Mrs J Bearman awarded the Carole Bartlett Trophy for accumulating the most points, while the Hart Key Challenge Cup was shared this year by Trevone W.I. and Betjeman Belles W.I.

Over 160 trade stands were on display, including a brand-new Sunday shopping area. Competition winners included J Shoes (Best Trade Exhibit), Treway Farm Turkeys (Best Food & Drink Exhibit), Coastguard Beach Crafts (Best Craft Exhibit), and Cornish Barista (Best Catering Exhibit).

Visitors also enjoyed the food and farming education zone, created in partnership with the Cornwall branch of the Rare Breeds Survival Trust. Families had the chance to meet and learn about sheep, pigs, goats, and other farm animals, making the fair both educational and fun for all ages.

Mark Stoddart, Honorary Secretary of the Wadebridge Prime Stock Association and CEO of the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association, said:

"It was fantastic to see the Cornish Winter Fair return in such beautiful weather. The quality of livestock, produce, and craft on display was outstanding, and the dedication of the young handlers and exhibitors is truly inspiring. This event is a brilliant showcase of Cornish agriculture, farming, and community spirit."
