Statement from Christopher Riddle, ARAgS, Secretary, Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association
The Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association sends its sincere condolences to the Royal Family at this sad time.
The Royal Family have been an integral part of the Association, since the addition of the Royal title by Queen Victoria in 1858.
Her Majesty the Queen visited the Royal Cornwall Show on two occasions, once in 1989, and again for the Millennium year in 2000, accompanied on both occasions by the late Duke of Edinburgh.
During Her Majesty’s latest visit in the year 2000, celebrations were prominent for the Millennium, and included Her Majesty attending a special luncheon and being presented with a hamper of Cornish products. Always with a keen interest in horses, Her Majesty also observed the grand parade of prize winning horses and presented ‘HM The Queen’s Cup’ to the Champion Light Horse.
Her Majesty was Patron of the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association until 2001, when the position was handed over to HRH The Duke of Cornwall.
