Despite the mechanical and electronic age, horses still play a prominent part in the British way of life.

Horses were first competed at the Royal Cornwall Show way back in 1794, at the second show ever held.

Although heavy horses might no longer be the agricultural powerhouse they once were, there are well supported classes at the show.

They are joined by other horses, ponies and donkeys of all shapes and sizes, competing for the top prizes.

You can watch all the competitions and judging and you can wander round the horse lines. It's like being back stage in the theatre watching the performers going through their pre-show routines.

There's also show jumping and driving classes, plus the fast paced inter hunt relay that takes place in the main ring.
