A TV favourite will be heading to Wadebridge next month to exhibit at the Royal Cornwall Show (7-9 June).
John Challis, famous for playing Boycie in the comedy classic Only Fools and Horses, will be attending the show to promote and sell his collection of self-penned books. He started his own publishing company, Wigmore Books, when he wrote his autobiography.
“I then wrote two novels about a new character called Reggie who moved from London to the country. They are very much in the style of Tom Sharpe and were the inspiration for The Green Green Grass, the spinoff series from Only Fools.”
The actor and author, whose most recent television role was as conman Monty Staines in ITV’s Benidorm, is no stranger to Cornwall.
“I am proud to be an ambassador for the Lizard lifeboat and have been down there a few times. We have friends who live on the Helford River and my nephew lives in Falmouth.
“Being a gardening enthusiast I have visited most of the great Cornish gardens and the Eden Project and one of my favourite holidays was spent surfing at Treyarnon Bay when I was a youngster. So, I think we can say that we know and love Cornwall.”
Importantly he added: “We also eat our scones jam first!”
John, accompanied by his wife Carol, are regulars on the UK’s agricultural show scene.
“We attend a lot of country shows and enjoy travelling around the country and meeting people and it seems that they are surprised and delighted to see Boycie!
“I’m so looking forward to our first Royal Cornwall Show,” he concluded.
